Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania has its fair share of influential sports lawyers. Now they have their own hangout – the Pittsburgh Sports Law Committee.
In 2010, Attorney Gerik Jenco had a dream to bring attorneys who have a passion for Pittsburgh sports together. Seven years ago, Jenco was a University of Pittsburgh law student with a unique perspective, as he also served as the Director of Operations for Pittsburgh-based law firm Del Duca Sports.
He came up with the idea of creating a Sports Law Committee of the Allegheny County Bar Association and sought out to make his idea a reality. Shortly thereafter, the Pittsburgh Sports Law Committee of the Allegheny County (Pennsylvania) Bar Association was formed. Seven years later, the committee is still active and influential in bringing together attorneys who have a passion for sports law and sharing their knowledge on several different subjects related to representation and legal issues of athletes in a variety of sports and levels.
The Sports Law Committee meets on the 3rd Thursday of the month from 12:00 p.m.-1:00 p.m. at the ACBA Headquarters, in the Pitt Conference Room.
The purpose of the Sports Law Committee is to provide a forum within the Allegheny County Bar Association to promote the continuous and efficient review of laws relating to the professional and amateur levels of sports and to provide educational and networking opportunities for members to expand their knowledge of the law on these subjects. Through detailed communications including meetings, e-mails, and newsletters, members will be kept informed and updated on significant legal developments in this specific area of interest. The Committee will endeavor to serve all of the audiences which work in the legal side of sports through the planning and scheduling of programs on numerous topics of interest.
